Holding Back the Night

(Thomasina - August, 1995)

Many thanks to Julia Cameron, Artists Way Workshop Leaders and Wisdom House for providing the inspiration and space that allowed me to write this song in twenty minutes.

Hush my child don’t you weep
Rest your head in slumber deep
A pillow sweet of fresh mown hay
Will guard your night till the break of day

Stars softly call your name
To tell you joy is yours to claim
Gently ease your furrowed brow
You are rocked in Love and safe right now

Close your eyes a dream you will make
To hold you fast till you awake
Cricket sings a song of light
Like a moonbeam’s prayer holding back the night
